2022 Gala: Mothering the Movement
A New Way of Life’s 2022 Gala (our first since 2020) brought together more than 350 people—including political leaders, activists, and prominent artists—to celebrate and support our reentry work. More than $300,000 was raised to support formerly incarcerated women!

A New Way of Life’s 2022 Gala: Mothering the Movement was an event to remember. On that night, December 3, over 350 community activists, donors, elected officials, residents, staff, and distinguished guests came together to celebrate our freedom work and honor the incredible women who have worked to show us the way forward.
Three incredible women were honored for dedicating their lives to lifting up systems-impacted communities: Philanthropist Agnes Gund, for establishing the Art for Justice Fund to support criminal justice reform activism and art; U.S. Congressional Representative-Elect, Sydney Kamlager, for authoring landmark legislation in the area of criminal justice reform; and Ms. Linda Washington for her two-decades of service to the women of A New Way of Life.
Combined with the proceeds raised from the silent auction, sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations, the 2022 Gala raised over $300,000 to support formerly incarcerated women!
Below is the 2022 kickoff announcement and introduction of our gala honorees.
THRILLED TO BE BACK AND IN-PERSON FOR A CELEBRATION
Filled with Love and Inspiration
We are so happy to be back in person with the gala. This year our celebration will be filled with love and inspiration. Through the last two years we have experienced tremendous growth and we have overcome many challenges. It prompted our theme: Mothering the Movement in honor of all the women who have come before to lift us up, and all the women who continue to hold, strengthen us and show us the way forward. We want to invite you to be a part of the night by being a sponsor. Come celebrate with us and support our freedom work.

2022 Honorees
In 2022, we honored three beautiful women who have recognized the historical racial disparity and generational trauma of people who are locked away and forgotten. They have not only responded with empathy, but with action.
One sold a beloved painting to fund efforts to end mass incarceration and its underlying racial bias through art and advocacy. Another listened to the cries of mothers losing their babies and passed legislation to end family separation from poverty. The third is the heart of A New Way of Life’s safe homes – a soft, welcoming presence to every woman who enters.
Please join us in honoring these women. They are mothering our movement to keep families together and provide healing spaces for systems-impacted people throughout the world.
