The Position

The Housing Coordinator plays a vital role in the success of A New Way of Life Reentry Project’s mission. This role is responsible for the proper administration and oversight of the organization’s safe house model, providing support to women returning home from jail or prison. The Housing Coordinator ensures safe and stable housing, fosters opportunities to re-establish community connections, and creates an environment where participants can heal from trauma and transform their lives.

This position combines housing management, client advocacy, and program coordination to empower formerly incarcerated women in their journey toward independence and stability.


Primary Responsibilities

Resident Intake and Needs Assessment

  • * Conduct intake processes for all incoming residents to assess and determine their needs.
  • * Provide service linkages and support systems to address identified needs effectively.

Program and Service Integration

  • * Act as a bridge to other A New Way of Life services, including Workforce Development & Education and Family Reunification programs.
  • * Assist residents in obtaining essential life documents, such as government-issued identification, Social Security cards, birth certificates, and securing public assistance.

Record Keeping and Documentation

  • * Maintain accurate intake records, progress notes, and housing-related documentation.

Facility Oversight and Maintenance

  • * Supervise ANWOL homes, ensuring they remain clean, drug- and alcohol-free, and provide a safe environment for all residents.
  • * Manage supply replenishment, including cleaning supplies and food, and emergency preparedness measures.

Meal Planning and Food Management

  • * Oversee menu and meal planning, including food procurement, inventory management, storage, and meal preparation.

Resident Engagement and Support

  • * Conduct regular meetings with residents to address issues, facilitate problem-solving, and improve communication.
  • * Advocate for residents before judicial, community, social service, and administrative bodies as needed.

Property Management

  • * Manage the properties by monitoring repairs, coordinating necessary orders, and ensuring a safe and habitable environment.

General Support

  • * Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operations of the program.

Qualifications

  • * A strong understanding of the population served and knowledge of the recovery process.
  • * A valid North Carolina Driver’s License, clean driving record, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance coverage.
  • * At least 2 years of relevant experience in housing coordination, case management, or a related field.
  • * Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support program operations.

Skills

  • * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and data management systems.
  • * Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • * Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • * Active listening and crisis intervention skills.
  • * Sound judgment and the ability to maintain professional boundaries in sensitive situations.
