Position: Civic Engagement Organizer

The Position:
The Civic Engagement Organizer will undertake extensive outreach, education and mobilization of communities throughout California to advance criminal justice reforms. The Organizer will be responsible for engaging in leadership development, enhancing knowledge of and assisting with policy changes, and directing projects pertaining to civic engagement. The position will require some travel across the state, and flexible work hours, including some weekend and evening hours.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
• Organize justice campaigns, encourage the participation of other organizations, and coordinate volunteer engagement
• Professionally represent A New Way of Life (ANWOL) and actively participate at community meetings, events, and conferences
• Monitor criminal justice issues related to mass incarceration and reentry in order to spread awareness and build upon the movement towards reducing recidivism
• Lead civic engagement activities such as conducting phone banks and offering resources at community events
• Build membership and facilitate monthly meetings for All of Us or None, a grassroots civil and human rights organization sponsored by ANWOL
• Maintain communication, support, and participation with collaborating groups such as community based organizations, youth groups, parent groups, business organizations, and other stakeholders
• Sustain contact with a network of activists and allies capable of providing civic engagement support through participation in events and other methods
• Assist in creating and updating protocols for leadership development workshops

• Ability to work collaboratively with community-based organizations, residents and stakeholders
• Competent understanding of political process and criminal justice dynamics
• Understanding of the population to be served and knowledge of the recovery process
• Effective writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Public speaking and presenting experience preferred.
• Ability to foster open communication among diverse groups and work effectively as a team
• One year experience in community organizing
• English/Spanish bilingual preferred
• Vehicle and auto insurance coverage, bonded, and a valid California Driver's license.
• Degree in related field or combination of equivalent work experience and education
