A New Way of Life Reentry Project is part of national, state, and local coalitions that advocate for the rights of people with conviction histories. Locally, we are part of the Southern California Reentry Practitioners’ Forum that meets regularly at Homeboy Industries.
Local policies affecting Section 8 housing have become progressively more hostile toward people with conviction histories. Although A New Way of Life Reentry Project does not have a regular direct service program to help represent people at Section 8 hearings, we do actively support and advocate for the right of people with conviction histories to obtain public assistance to meet their housing needs in our interaction with local housing authorities.
Policies of the state licensing agencies too have become increasingly hostile toward people with conviction histories. A New Way of Life advocates for legislative changes in Sacramento and works to reform individual licensing agencies’ practices.
